Finding magic in the world around you

Do you ever find yourself out in the middle of nowhere letting your imagination go wild? I often times find my mind wandering to various stories I’ve read and seeing the magic of them coming to life as I go out on a nature walk.

Last week, I hiked to Angels Rest with my son, and found myself imaging seeing remnants of giants on the path before me, the trail to Mordor, an Elvin Fairies throne, the rabbit hole to Wonderland, the caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland, and tiny fairy clothes in the flowers on the side of the path.

I once had someone tell me they didn’t like Alice in Wonderland because it was too weird and none of it made any sense. I told her it was an imaginary world and it wasn’t supposed to make sense. She didn’t agree. She just didn’t get the story line. I didn’t argue with her, I just thought: How sad it is when someone can’t see the wonder and fun in a made up world. I hope I never become that person. I have a whole board dedicated to imaginary things titled Mystical and Magical on Pinterest. It’s just too fun to imagine a world different than our own to live in.

Maybe that’s why I enjoy acting so much. For a while, you get to be someone other than yourself. Jump into a different world, then bring that world to life for others to see.

Next time you’re out in nature, open you mind to the magic of the world around you, let your thoughts wander to imaginary things. After all, this world is what we make of it. Why not let it be fun?
