How to style your summer clothes for cold weather

Ever wanted to bring that wonderful summer style you love into fall or winter, but it’s too cold to wear it when the weather changes? Here are a few tips to on how to style your summer favs for fall and winter instead of pushing them to the back of the closet until the spring thaw begins. Hint, it’s all about the layers…

Black and white and silver all over

Layer up. Add scarves, coats, boots, hats, tights – whatever keeps you warm! I chose to wear a sleeveless maxi dress and didn’t remember to put on a pair of tights. But baby, it’s getting cold out there, so I could have used those tights as the weather is cooling down now in Oregon. Not quite winter weather yet, but upper 40’s are still a bit cold.

Wear a sweater over top of a dress so it looks more like a skirt – adds extra warmth and creates a new fall/winter look.

Depending on the dress, you can wear your dress as a tunic with leggings underneath + boots for added warmth. Or skinny jeans. Any pants that aren’t too bulky will work just fine.

Wear a long sleeved shirt underneath a sleeveless dress. I have one I was looking at thinking it would look good with the new ‘in’ trend of wearing shirts under sleeveless dresses or tops.

Wear a cardigan over the dress with a vest layered over top + tights and boots.

Maxi dresses are great for fall and winter – the longer length equals more warmth.

Wear shorts with thick tights and boots + layers on top for a fun fall look.

Mostly, it’s all about layering – over or under to get the warmth & style you need and want for the colder weather.

Black & white striped dress – #fashionfriday

I got the black and white striped Lauren Conrad dress at Khol’s for six dollars! I know, right? I technically had a ten dollar savings card to use as well, but also had 2 other items that day as I mentioned in a previous postI finally got a chance to wear it on a trip to the Swan Island Dahlia Farm last month.

It was a bit long and dragged on the ground, getting the hem dirty by the end of the day. Perhaps it shrunk in the wash since then, but it doesn’t really look like it did, so I may just need to wear it with heels. It is a nice cotton blend material – thick, not that cheap thin see-through stuff we keep seeing in the stores nowadays. You know, the kind where you need to buy another shirt to layer underneath it (sometimes two or three!) in order to make it less sheer. No, this is the good stuff.

And the pattern! How fun is that design? Large blocks of striped material going every which way, creating a fun whimsical pattern. What’s not to love?
