Fuchsia Bow Tie Top + a non-sewing tip to shorten your skirt

I got this Jennifer Lopez fuchsia bow tie top after Christmas on the clearance racks at Kohl’s. For less than $5. As usual. Ha. It has been such a cold winter and spring, I just now got around to wearing it for the first time. The top is a bit of a wrap top in the front and I didn’t realize until I was out and about in it that it looked like it had come un-sewn for about an inch and kept trying to flop open a bit too far. I’ll have to try and sew that back up again so I’m not having to keep holding it closed or put the straps from the bow over that spot in the future.

The denim skirt a friend gave me. And while it’s a really cute style with a back slit that I love, I didn’t like that it cut off right on the top of my knees. Knees being these weird knobby little things we don’t really want to draw the eyes to, I always think the hemline should either be an inch or so above the knees or just go ahead and fall right below them so we aren’t accentuating them. Amirite?

So, I used the old school trick I used to do in high school to make skirts shorter and rolled the hem up one turn at the top. Because of the heavy denim material and the pockets and slit on the back, any more than that wouldn’t have worked on this skirt. Since the top was pretty long, I just tucked a little in at the front and let it hang over the now bulky waistline so the roll up wasn’t noticeable.

The phone case is a Kate Spade. Gorgeous, huh?

The sunglasses are from TJ Maxx but came from American Eagle Outfitters. And the shoes are silver glitter Converse sneakers.

Casual style

Yep, chillin’ like a villian. (A friend said that on a Snapchat post recently. Now the phrase is stuck in my head. Hahaha.)

Red romper – #fashionfriday

This jumpsuit is so cute! I ordered it in red and it is a wonderful color! The material is very lightweight, feels like chiffon, and did not wrinkle easily. I ironed it before wearing it to get out the creases it had from being folded up while shipped to me and was afraid to put it on or I’d sit down and get wrinkles all over it again. Nope. Once ironed it stayed relatively wrinkle free. The back has a keyhole slit and there is a button at the top. The loop the button goes into is stretchy elastic and easy to get the button in and out of. I would definitely recommend this item to anyone who wants a cute summer jumpsuit. *Although I did receive this item at a discounted rate to review it on Amazon, all opinions expressed are entirely my own and I was not asked to review it on my blog. I must say, though, this was the self-photo shoot from hell. I had a gut feeling I should bring along a pair of flip flops before leaving the house. But did I? Nope. And as soon as I got to my destination for the photo shoot and stepped out of the car, the top of my wedge heel started peeling off of the wedge. So I had to hobble along from one spot to the next with my shoe falling apart more with each step. (If you look at the 4th photo down, you can see where the top of the shoe has totally lifted from the wedge heel.)

Then, there were some prickly blackberry vines by the first tree I tried taking photos by. I got poked in the leg a couple of times, then one worked it’s way under my big toe. I tried to pick it out and it broke off on the outside, leaving the rest inside of my toe. So then I had to limp around with a pricker in my toe and my wedge heel coming undone.

I couldn’t get the camera to stay put on the tri-pod. After quite a bit of fiddling around with it I finally figured out which lever tightened the part the camera was attached to so I didn’t have a crooked camera and crooked photos. I was really wishing for Calvin’s help right about then and frustrated beyond all belief at that point. But, I had only a few more days to get my photos done and my review written up for Amazon, so the show had to go on! I did manage to get my photos done all by myself. Then I tried walking through the parking lot with my shoes off, but decided the bottom my feet just weren’t tough enough for that so put the heels on and did sort of a shuffle slide walk back to my car. And yet, if I didn’t tell you, would you even know I had a shoe falling apart, a pricker in my toe and got poked by prickers on the insides of my legs? No. Probably not. So I guess we can call that a successful photo shoot now that it’s over. But I thought I’d tell you the back story, just to keep it real!
