How to mix plaid like a pro

Are you a fan of plaid? Here are some tips for mixing plaid patterns like a pro!

Mix similar colors. Here I mixed purple plaid and pink plaid. Colors that compliment each other.

Go bold! I also chose bold bright colors for a brilliant color scheme that stands out.

Layer. Take an accessory like a scarf or poncho and layer it over another plaid.

Gingham and plaid. Mix gingham and plaid. A simple gingham check with a more complex plaid pattern is a great way to layer squares upon squares.

Sport a plaid coat. Wear a plaid coat over plaid pants, a dress or a top.

Opposites. Wear opposite color patterns, For example, if your outer layer is red with black, make the inner layer black with red.

Coordinate color schemes. Match a coat and hat in the same pattern of plaid for a matchy, matchy plaid look.

Mix different types of plaid. Try mixing a plaid with a smaller lines with a bigger plaid pattern. Complimenting your color scheme.

Tie in with a neutral shade. Make sure to use different types of plaid tied in with a good neutral shade as a baseline so the eyes don’t go totally crazy.

Keep it simple and have fun with it.

Go with grace this week. Thank you for stopping by.

‘For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God.’ ~ Ephesians 2:8

How to keep pretty colors in your fall wardrobe

Do you ever notice how fall colors in clothing get a bit, well, ugly during this time of year? I mean, how can they be so pretty out in nature and so awful in the store? You start seeing baby puke yellow, poop green, muddy orange all mixed in with brown to make a putrid fall color palette.

Enough, I say! Let’s try to make fall as pretty in our clothing color schemes as the colors are the rest of the year.

Royal blue peplum top, TJ Maxx; Leopard print pants, TJ Maxx; red booties, old, gifted to me by Sole Society; Betsey Johnson cat ear sunglass, old, Marshall’s; leather jacket, old; similar here. Colorblock handbag, given to me.

A few ways to keep fall beautiful:

  • Choose bold colors that pop.
  • Don’t mix everything with brown
  • Mimic nature
  • Be different
  • Just say no to color combos that look like something your cat just barfed up.

Thank you for your attention to this very important matter. If we all work together, we can make our fall wardrobes beautiful again.

Happy fall, ya’ll!
