Styling a basic tee for fall

Continuing on last weeks theme this week – styling a basic tee for fall. With motivation from tees compliments of Mott and Bow. (All opinions are my own.) This look is definitely an early fall look, as I’ll be ditching the shorts altogether when the weather gets really cold. But, as most of us realize by now, motivation is hard to find this year, so take it from wherever you can and just go with it.

Mott & Bow fitted crew tee shirt, c/o; jean shorts, old; Navy blue duster cardigan, a gift; Sole Society gray combat boots, gifted, more boots here. Cat ear Betsey Johnson sunglasses, Marshall’s, old; Hair scrunchie, Marshall’s; Interlocking circle necklace and earrings, Kohl’s, old.

So, we tried to take off on a little adventure to the gorge last weekend. We didn’t just try, off we went. Only to get out there and discover a lot of the parking lots were closed to most of the falls. Some had signs saying it was due to the fires. We weren’t sure if it was the current fires over in Clackamas County or the Big Fire that swept through the gorge a couple of years ago.

However, we did get out at Latourell Falls, and you can go to the falls, but the other hiking paths are closed. Bridal veil falls was open, but overflow parking was closed so we couldn’t find anywhere to park. Multnomah Falls parking lot off the Columbia Historic Highway was closed, however, you can still park at the one off the freeway. Horsetail Falls parking lot was closed. I was starting to get so bummed, I dubbed this The Year Of No Fun Whatsoever.

And also, don’t go chasing waterfalls. Really. Don’t. They’re all closed. Technically, if you can see them without going on any hiking trails, they’re still there for you to see as you drive by. But that’s it. Keep your arms and legs in the vehicle at all times. It’s not safe to get out and look around this year. There’s Covid and murder hornets and fires with lots of ash out there.

As it’s rained a bit more this past week, maybe you can go hike to them at this time. But now you’ll probably slide off the trails. Don’t say I didn’t warn you…

The good news is, my Mott  & Bow tee was not only comfy, but also good for an ‘attempting to have an adventure’  sort of look. I paired it with a long duster cardigan – they’re coming back! – and combat boots for an attempt to be warm in the shade and cool in the sunshine. Exactly what the changing season calls for.

As usual, thank you for stopping by. May your week be filled with sunshine – but no raging fires.

Maybe it’s okay if I’m not okay

I’ll be honest with you: I have not been okay at every moment this week. Sometimes, the newest news on my moms cancer leaves us reeling. The last news we got was that kind of news. Not good. The tumor on her ilium bone is about the size of a small tennis ball and was described by her doctor as looking like it was ‘bursting out of her bone’. She’s in a lot of pain and has started radiation treatment just for that spot. So far she’s reported it feels worse since she started radiation than before she began. Hopefully this changes as they start shrinking it down. Keep her in your prayers. Pray the trial drug gets approved through a patient assistance program so they can afford it. Pray for a miracle. There is no cure for this kind of cancer. Just a trial drug that buys time.

So, suffice it to say, I haven’t been totally okay. I couldn’t smile my way through this photo shoot last weekend, even though some smiles were caught. And that’s okay. Sometimes, it’s okay to not be okay.

I’ve been playing this song over and over: Maybe It’s Ok by We are Messengers.

Maybe it’s ok if I’m not ok
‘Cause the One who holds the world is holding onto me
Maybe it’s all right if I’m not all right
‘Cause the One who holds the stars is holding my whole life

Brown 3/4 sleeve blazer, Ross, zebra print skirt, gifted to me, similar here, brown OTK boots, Shop Girl Consignment, Kate Spade New York handbag, gifted to me, bronze earrings, Kohl’s, floral statement necklace, gifted to me, brown metallic watch, Ross

Let’s talk about this skirt, though. Zebra print. So cute! Loving the zebra print fad. I paired it with a chocolate brown blazer I got at Ross a few years ago, chocolate brown OTK boots I found at a consignment shop in Gresham last fall, bronze jewelry and a bright pink Kate Spade handbag gifted to me a couple of years ago, which adds a nice pop of color as well.

As always, thank you for stopping by and thank you for any prayers for my mom.
