How to mix plaid like a pro

Are you a fan of plaid? Here are some tips for mixing plaid patterns like a pro!

Mix similar colors. Here I mixed purple plaid and pink plaid. Colors that compliment each other.

Go bold! I also chose bold bright colors for a brilliant color scheme that stands out.

Layer. Take an accessory like a scarf or poncho and layer it over another plaid.

Gingham and plaid. Mix gingham and plaid. A simple gingham check with a more complex plaid pattern is a great way to layer squares upon squares.

Sport a plaid coat. Wear a plaid coat over plaid pants, a dress or a top.

Opposites. Wear opposite color patterns, For example, if your outer layer is red with black, make the inner layer black with red.

Coordinate color schemes. Match a coat and hat in the same pattern of plaid for a matchy, matchy plaid look.

Mix different types of plaid. Try mixing a plaid with a smaller lines with a bigger plaid pattern. Complimenting your color scheme.

Tie in with a neutral shade. Make sure to use different types of plaid tied in with a good neutral shade as a baseline so the eyes don’t go totally crazy.

Keep it simple and have fun with it.

Go with grace this week. Thank you for stopping by.

How to style a basic tee two ways

This post is all about the basic tee and how to style one.

T-shirts are foundational pieces that can be worn alone or layered up for cooler weather. As we transition away from summer, it’s important to have different layers for different types of weather, even same day weather changes.

Look 1:

Navy tee, c/o Mott & Bow, here. Denim jacket, old; olive jeans, Kohl’s, old; Kate Spade New York handbag, gifted to me, old; feather earrings, Kohl’s; Suede sneakers, Ross, old.

A typical fall morning is cool, so you’re likely to be wearing pants or capris. A light jacket is a good idea most mornings. It’s also time to start pulling out your closed toe shoes like these blue suede sneakers.

Look 2:

As afternoon comes on, you may want to change things up for a cooler outfit. Ditch the jacket and closed toe shoes. Knot up the tee. Add a hat if it’s sunny.

Knotted tee, c/o Mott and Bow, here. Patterned jean shorts, Kohl’s; rose gold purse, Ross, old. White laser cute wedge sandals, Ross, last year; Wish you were here sunhat, Marshall’s, old.

Weather is a fickle thing in the fall time. And in Oregon, for that matter.

This tee was from Mott & Bow. It is really good quality soft, silky cotton for an affordable price. It’s so comfortable, I could sleep in it. (And have!)

Thank you to any and all who sent prayers our way for the fires in Oregon. I am happy to say we finally got rain, which helped clear all the smoke from the sky so we can breath non hazardous air again.
