For the love of shoes!

I feel like I should dub this ‘The Year of the Shoe’. I have bought so many cute sandals this year, and a super cute pair of Sketchers athletic shoes. In my defense, a lot of my old ones are just falling apart. Plain and simple.

I had a couple pairs that were falling apart but were in really good shape otherwise, so I went out and bought some Shoe Goo. Yes. There is such a thing. You repair your shoes with it. I know. In today’s day and age, whoever thought of repairing something old rather than just chucking it out and getting something completely brand new? I did both. Repaired the old and bought the new. Super proud of myself for attempting to fix the old ones. Not sure how long the repair job will last, but what’s a little more time with a beloved shoe?

I won’t show pictures of all the old ones. (In fact, I didn’t take any of my ‘fix-it-upper’ shoes.)  The new ones were definitely worth showcasing.

Laser cut zip-up wedge sandals from Ross.

Supa fancy blinged up flip flop style sandals from Marshall’s.

Woven wedge sandals from Rue 21.

Comfy and cute embroidered floral memory foam Sketchers. Can be a great transitioning seasons shoe as well. Found on clearance at Ross.

Gold bling thongs sandals. Ross for the win again!

And technically, these are from the end of last summer. Crocheted wedge sandals found at Goodwill during one of those rare instances you walk by something you like, pick it up and it actually fits. I find this much harder to do at Goodwill and much easier to do at Marshall’s, Ross, or TJ Maxx.

Anyone else out there a shoe-aholic? Any great shoes you’ve found for a good deal lately?

Thank you for stopping by!

How to become the master of your own destiny

Becoming a master of your own destiny isn’t always as easy as it sounds, but there are step you can take to get you charting a course in the right direction. Some of it is up to you, the rest is up to fate.

Identify steps you can take to go in the direction you want to go in. I.e. Classes you need to get the training you will need to succeed in the path you’ve chosen, or things you may need to do first to get your ‘ducks all lined up in a row’, so to speak.

Next, identify the obstacles in your way: illness, injury, financial, lack of knowledge or training. There are always going to be things you can change and things totally out of your control. Some of these may come up after you’ve started in the right direction. Your goal is to set your sails in the direction you want to go in, but there are always going to be storms in life, rip tides or currents pulling you off your course. Sometimes you need to ride out those times when you’re off course until you can get through them and set your sails in the right direction again.

Figure out how to get through the storms in life. Once you’ve gotten side-tracked by one of life’s storms, look around, figure out a new plan of action to get you out of that time in your life. If you, like me have an injury, you may just need to be doing everything you can to get healed up so you can continue on the path you’ve set before yourself. If you have a terminal illness like cancer, like my mom does, you do everything you can do to fight it. My mom not only goes to chemo and takes her trial drug, she also made diet changes and drinks mineral or spring water because it has more alkalinity in it than regular water. Cancer can’t survive in a  body that is at the right level of alkalinity. In addition to all this she also takes a small amount of baking soda mixed with water to help get the acidic levels in her body down and her alkaline levels back up. Since it is also equally bad to have an too much alkaline in your body, she found some ph strips at the Natural Grocer’s store and uses them to keep track of where she is at. Sometimes, there is only so much you can do to fight the place you are in in your life. Just do what you can.

Don’t be afraid to try new things. Trying new things can be daunting. Usually we aren’t very good at doing something new for the first time and feel uncomfortable being put on the spot not knowing how to do things. Do it anyway. Everyone is a beginner once. Now it’s your turn. Don’t let fear stop you from trying something new. Know that you may fall down over and over again while trying to go in a new direction. Go anyway.

Don’t quit because it’s tough. Keep getting up.Once you are through one of life’s storms, figure out how to get back on track and start heading where you want to go again. Set goals to get going back in the direction you were headed before you went totally off course. Unless, of course, you decide to set your sails for a whole new direction. Then be brave and chart a new course!

In any case, happy sails to you! And remember to work as if everything depends upon you, because it does; act as if everything depends upon God, because it does.

Work as if everything depends on you; pray as if everything depends on God.

And there’s always the wisdom of the serenity prayer!
