Rise Up

Truth be told, most of us are glad to see 2020 go. For most people Covid and Covid restrictions are the main reason. For me, it started before Covid when my mom passed away January 2nd of last year due to cancer. Then Covid hit, another friend got cancer and I got in a car accident just before Christmas. It felt like the year was cursed.

As we step into a new year, some are excited for a fresh new start. Others, like me are wary. I was joking that I wanted to sign a pre-nup with 2021 and if the year went bad, I was going to cut my losses and go my separate way. 2021 doesn’t get anything from me. No siree. Not happenin’.

Sometimes I like to pick a word for the year. This year my sister found a quiz you can take that will give you a word for the year. Only problem was that between 5 people, only two different words were assigned. My word was ‘Overcome.’ And while I do need to overcome the bad things that happened in 2020, I liked the word the other person who also got Overcome had picked for herself. Rise.

Overcoming is the first step in rising up. But there is something more powerful in the word Rise. It speaks to me more than the word Overcome.

So this year, I hope to Rise Up. Out of the ashes of 2020, like a phoenix reborn. Rise up to a new beginning. Rise up to a new dawn. Rise up to new hope.

Isaiah 60:1 ‘Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.’

Happy New Year everyone. For all of you who are overcomers, or in need of overcoming, I hope you join me in rising up this year.

To reflect or not to reflect…

As the year ends, tradition dictates we all reflect on the past year. I really don’t feel like it. My wonderful job as an Influencer ended, my marriage is failing, a friend committed suicide. Somehow I look back on the end of the year and still don’t know where my future is, so I really don’t want to keep reflecting on the past year and the way it’s ending. Instead, I bolster my spirits finding new sayings to pin on Pinterest onto my Words of Wisdom board that encourage me to go forth boldly into the great unknown of a new year. Does anyone else do that? I’m sure I’m not the only one who pins things to encourage myself, whether it’s sayings or food I think I’m going to make, projects I think I’m going to do, things that make me laugh, things I want, places I want to go… That’s the draw of Pinterest. An online pin board to pin all of our hopes, ideas and dreams on. Because in the end, our hopes & dreams are what keep us going. For me, I’m ready to throw 2015 into the trash and step forth into the new year and whatever it has to offer me!
